MOJRAR in pursuit of the improvement of the justice system in Puntland has convened and re-initiated successive meetings involving the stakeholders and agencies involved in the justice system in Puntland. The attendees of the meeting included local NGOs, INGOs who all are involved in justice. Also represented in the meeting were institutions in the Puntland government related with justice including police departments, custodian corps, courts, office of the attorney general and the human rights commission.
Intellectuals, seasoned lawyers and experts in the legal affairs have also participated in the meeting for contribution and update from recent legal debates and issues related with justice.
The stakeholders have discussed through the course of the meeting the following issues:-
- Update and information sharing about the different work done by each stakeholder or institution
- Ways of harmonizing the work stakeholders do to avoid redundancy and to divergence from the deliverables of justice related projects
- Discussions about the recent rape cases and the overall rise in violence against women
- Capacity building and improving the competency of the institutions involved in justice
After much deliberations, discussion and experience sharing among the participants about the aforementioned points of discussion, a press release was issued concerning how to improve the justice system and increase the capacity, improve the capacity and improve cooperation among all stakeholders. It also emphasized that each stakeholder keeps MOJRAR informed and well aware of the work they do in the different sectors they operate in.
The participant have agreed and encouraged to continue such meeting to make possible for the people of Puntland a viable justice system which is reliable, competent and fair.
Dr. Mohamed Ali Farah, Deputy Minister of MOJRAR have made the closing remarks, and has thanked all the participants for the important work they for Puntland, and has encouraged them to continue and improve their work. He also promised that as MOJRAR they will continue such meeting for information sharing, cooperation and discussion about the overall work related with justice which is done by many and different agencies and institutions.
